FURIA kicked off their BLAST Open Porto campaign with a commanding performance against paiN, and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis credits their motivation to anger from a recent disappointing result.
The team arrived in Porto just three days after placing fourth at the Esports World Cup, where they suffered defeats to FUT and Legacy. Speaking to the analyst desk following the victory, YEKINDAR explained how the squad channeled their frustration into positive results.
"We were angry," the Latvian rifler admitted, reflecting on their EWC performance. "Angry at ourselves because we had multiple chances to reach the grand finals against FUT. Some situations came down to their excellent play, but we also made mistakes that prevented us from closing out the match."
He recalled a conversation with an interviewer who questioned whether anger was beneficial. YEKINDAR's response was to wait and see how this tournament played out. Based on their opening match, the emotion clearly provided fuel.
FURIA absolutely dismantled paiN in their all-Brazilian matchup, controlling the series from beginning to end. The squad secured their inaugural Cache victory and completed their first sweep in two months, dating back to a semi-final win over Aurora at the Cologne Major.

The momentum continued onto Cache, where YEKINDAR handled in-game leading responsibilities and delivered an extraordinary individual performance. When analyst Donald "voo" Parkhurst asked about his interest in calling, YEKINDAR clarified his long-term ambitions. He expressed interest in becoming a full-time IGL eventually, but only when he feels his abilities as a role player begin to decline. For now, he believes he's still in his prime regarding decision-making and team contribution.
