The Brazilian-majority roster of FURIA have clinched their opening championship of 2026 following a grueling best-of-five grand final showdown with BetBoom at the Thunderpick World Championship 2026. The series went the distance, with FURIA emerging victorious 3-2 after utilizing all five maps.
This championship victory carries special significance for FURIA's legendary player Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, who revealed his intention to retire when 2026 concludes. The announcement came back in April, making every trophy potentially his last. Concerns had mounted that the squad might finish the year without capturing an S-tier championship, particularly after disappointing results at several major tournaments including the IEM Cologne 2026 Major. Those worries have now been put to rest.
The grand final delivered an epic seesaw battle between both teams. FURIA drew first blood by claiming Dust2, but BetBoom responded forcefully by taking both Ancient and Nuke to gain the series advantage. Facing elimination, FURIA mounted a comeback on Mirage, narrowly securing a 13-11 victory powered by exceptional performance from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, pushing the contest to the decisive Cache.
The final map saw FURIA's most commanding performance of the day. They established an 8-4 lead on their T-side and never looked back, closing out Cache 13-6. FalleN shined in the spotlight with fourteen eliminations and an impressive plus-6.87 percent round swing contribution.
While this championship represents a significant achievement and major relief for the squad, opportunities remain. Multiple S-tier competitions are still scheduled for 2026. FURIA's next challenge arrives at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, commencing October 24th.
