The final North American representative has been knocked out of the Esports World Cup 2026. Wildcard faced paiN Gaming in a crucial Group D lower bracket elimination match.
Although Wildcard secured victory on the opening map, they completely collapsed across the next two maps. The North American squad managed to win only ten rounds combined on maps two and three. Making matters worse, paiN closed out their Nuke pick by claiming the last thirteen rounds, then opened Mirage with seven straight rounds for an incredible 20-round winning streak.
The matchup kicked off on Inferno, Wildcard's selection. paiN jumped ahead 6-1 on their CT side before Wildcard responded with five consecutive rounds to even the score 6-6 heading into halftime. The NA team extended their run to nine straight rounds, building a 10-6 advantage. paiN refused to fold, clawing back from a 12-9 deficit to push the map into overtime. Wildcard dominated the extra rounds, sealing a 16-12 victory to avoid the embarrassment of losing their own map choice.
Nuke served as the second battleground, with Wildcard beginning on the defensive side. Despite grabbing an early 3-0 lead, they failed to capitalize. paiN stormed back with nine unanswered rounds to close the first half with a dominant 9-3 lead. The North Americans offered no resistance after the side switch, falling 13-3.
The Brazilians carried their momentum into the deciding map, stretching their round-winning run to twenty across the final two maps. paiN established near-total control with an 11-1 first-half lead on Mirage. Wildcard mounted a late resistance, but the deficit proved insurmountable. paiN closed out Mirage 13-7 to advance and send Wildcard home from the tournament.
paiN Gaming will battle The MongolZ tomorrow at 12:50 PM.
