Swisher on M80's Major Qualification: 'Hoping Valve Reconsiders Sticker System'

M80 have punched their ticket to the Singapore Major following a victory over Legacy, capitalizing on strong performances at local LANs and Pro League. However, questions linger about the financial value of that achievement after Valve's controversial sticker system overhaul reduced team and player earnings at the Cologne Major.

Despite dropping two maps to BETBOOM by narrow margins, M80 rebounded with wins against TYLOO and fifth-ranked Legacy. Michael "Swisher" Schmid acknowledges the team's capability to challenge elite opposition, demonstrated by their Porto triumph over Natus Vincere, but consistency remains elusive.

"When the energy's there, the vibes are there, the attitude's there, I think we can be a top ten team," Swisher explained. "The issue we run into is sometimes we're a little quiet. The potential is there, it's just trying to get it to be consistent."

Cache has emerged as a fortress for M80, with Swisher calling it historically an "NA map." Even their four losses on the map came in overtime, making them confident against any opponent. The team targeted Legacy's stand-in heavily on Cache's B site, though they adjusted their approach on Dust2 to focus on their own gameplay.

Coming into the tournament with limited practice—averaging just thirty hours per player over two weeks due to constant travel and inconsistent setups—M80 welcomed the stable environment. Their Roman Imperium victory and Logitech performances helped secure Major qualification ahead of schedule, now sitting above Liquid in live VRS rankings.

Regarding the sticker controversy, Swisher voiced widespread concern: "Everyone is hoping they rethink their stance on the stickers and the system. The difference between this last Major and this one was really bad. Everybody suffered, especially tier-two, tier-three orgs." He expressed cautious optimism that Valve might adjust based on community feedback, though acknowledged the company's reluctance to reverse decisions.
