Streak of Misfortune Continues: CYPHER's New Team Falls Apart Before Signing

July 23, 20262 min read

British Counter-Strike 2 player Cai "CYPHER" Watson has encountered yet another unfortunate obstacle in his professional career. The 23-year-old revealed via social media that his latest team opportunity collapsed at the worst possible moment—the organization allegedly fell apart just as he was preparing to sign his contract.

According to reports from Vladislav "GromovCS" Gromov on July 13th, CYPHER had been trialing with Ukrainian organization ALGO. The roster was shaping up to be quite promising for a tier-three team, reportedly including notable players Pavle "maden" Bošković and Nemanja "nexa" Isaković.

ALGO itself has struggled significantly in Counter-Strike 2 since joining the scene in 2025. The organization cycled through an astonishing 20 different players over the past year while searching for a successful formula. Their performance reflects these difficulties—after peaking at 89th in the Valve Regional Standings back in February, they've now dropped to 169th globally.

For CYPHER, this represents just the latest chapter in a string of unfortunate team experiences stretching back three years. After reaching the quarterfinals at the BLAST.tv Paris Major in 2023, his career trajectory has been marked by instability. He played for TSM during their short-lived comeback, joined BLEED before their financial collapse, and was part of an early BC.Game roster that never gained traction.

His time with Fnatic brought some success—winning FRAG Blocktober 2025 and securing a StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 spot—before being controversially benched for Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson. Most recently, he spent two months on loan with 500 before the casino-backed organization exited CS2 following Valve's updated regulations on skin sponsorships.

The British prospect's run of bad luck speaks for itself, and the community hopes he'll finally land with a stable organization soon.
