Luminosity's rocky start to their new roster continues as Spirit eliminated them from the Esports World Cup with a decisive 2-0 victory, marking the team's second straight tournament exit without a win.
Following their disastrous 0-3 debut at XSE Pro League, Luminosity hoped the Esports World Cup would offer redemption. Instead, an opening loss to GamerLegion set up a do-or-die matchup against Spirit. The Russian powerhouse proved too strong, sending Luminosity packing empty-handed once again.
Since bringing in Lucas "lux" Meneghini to replace former IGL Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen, the revamped lineup has managed just one map victory across eight attempts—a troubling statistic for any competitive team.
The elimination match started on Luminosity's Ancient pick, but Spirit seized control immediately with a pistol round win. Rising star Danil "donk" Kryshkovets dominated the opening half with a 15-6 scoreline, propelling Spirit to a commanding 9-3 advantage. After claiming the second pistol as well, Spirit rolled to a comfortable 13-3 victory.
Dust2 offered more drama. Luminosity grabbed the pistol and anti-eco before Spirit surged ahead 8-4. Two crucial rounds helped Luminosity equalize at 6-6 by halftime. Spirit pushed ahead 10-6 in the second half, but Luminosity refused to fold, forcing overtime. Spirit faced elimination at 13-15 but clutched both rounds to force double overtime, where they finally closed out the map 19-15.
With no major tournament invitations remaining and their VRS ranking plummeting after five consecutive series defeats, Luminosity face an uncertain road ahead.
