paiN Gaming remain in contention for a playoff berth at the Esports World Cup after battling back to defeat Wildcard in the Group D lower bracket.
The Brazilian squad recovered from an overtime defeat on Inferno, dominating Nuke before sealing the series on Mirage. A game-changing 1v4 clutch from captain Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt proved crucial in stopping Wildcard's momentum.
"That's what a leader does," João "snow" Vinicius explained when asked about his captain's heroics. "It's really important for the leader to deliver in those moments, especially when we desperately need a round. That clutch was fantastic and helped us secure the match. I'm extremely happy for him."
The 19-year-old acknowledged paiN's struggles with consistency this season. Despite reaching the quarterfinals at Bounty, they've experienced disappointing exits elsewhere, including a qualifier loss to DENDELE and a poor showing at Stake.
"Honestly, the start of the second half hasn't been great," snow admitted. "We've fallen short in situations we shouldn't have. Against teams like DENDELE, we need to close out maps when things are going our way."
Looking ahead to their Sunday matchup against The MongolZ, snow expressed cautious optimism. paiN have lost both previous encounters this year, but The MongolZ recently made roster changes.
"They're a great team," snow said. "The two new additions could work in our favor. They're very young, so we don't know their individual styles well, but we understand how MongolZ plays. We're going in well prepared. This win is extremely important for us."
The victory also boosted paiN eight spots in the rankings to No. 28, giving them valuable points for future event invitations and Major qualification.
