G2 Esports launched their BLAST Open Porto tournament run with a decisive 2-0 victory against Aurora, with Artem "r1nkle" Moroz delivering an exceptional individual display.
The opening map, Inferno, saw G2 cruise to a comfortable 13-5 triumph, setting the tone for the series. However, the real drama unfolded on Anubis, where Aurora built what appeared to be a commanding 12-7 advantage. Despite holding this significant lead, Aurora's momentum crumbled spectacularly as G2 mounted an incredible comeback to claim the map 16-12.
The architect of this remarkable turnaround was r1nkle, who demonstrated exactly why G2 brought him on board. The Ukrainian sniper produced a magnificent 32-kill performance with an impressive 1.86 rating on Anubis alone. His impact was particularly devastating on the CT side, where he opened proceedings with a FAMAS ace before switching to the AWP and posting an astonishing 23-4 record on defense.
G2's Eetu "sAw" Saha had previously emphasized the team's need for an aggressive AWPer to complement their more methodical riflers, and r1nkle's Anubis showcase proved exactly that point. His ability to take duels across the entire map and utilize the freedom G2 grants him made all the difference.
While Aurora struggled to find their rhythm and failed to capitalize on their substantial lead, G2's strategic adjustment at the sniper position appears to be paying immediate dividends.
