Perfect World Announces China to Host Second CS2 Major of 2027

September 14, 20262 min read

Perfect World has made an official announcement through their Esports App confirming that the second CS2 Major tournament of 2027 will take place in China. This revelation came as part of the company's ninth anniversary festivities, celebrating the launch of Valve's flagship shooter in mainland China.

This confirmation carries significant weight in Counter-Strike history. For the first time ever, Europe will not host a single Major tournament throughout an entire calendar year. The first Major of 2027 has already been confirmed for Buenos Aires under FiReSPORTS organization, meaning both tournaments will occur outside European territory.

Earlier reports from January by HLTV suggested Shanghai as the likely location for this Major, citing insider sources. Perfect World's latest announcement appears to validate those earlier claims, though the exact city has not been explicitly confirmed in this statement.

The decision represents a continued push into Asian markets for premier Counter-Strike competition. Following the upcoming PGL Major Singapore 2026 scheduled for later this year, this would mark back-to-back years with Major tournaments held in Asia.

The previous Shanghai Major received positive feedback from the community despite some concerns about timezone differences for international viewers. Chinese fans showed exceptional support with impressive attendance numbers, demonstrating strong local enthusiasm for top-tier Counter-Strike competition. The region's growing esports infrastructure and passionate fanbase make it an increasingly attractive destination for major tournaments.
