Brazilian esports organization paiN Gaming has made official the roster adjustment that sees Lucas "Tatu" Santana stepping up from the academy team to replace Guilherme "piriajr" Barbosa on the main Counter-Strike 2 squad for the rest of the competitive season. The decision marks the second academy promotion in under two weeks for paiN, following the earlier benching of Vinicius "vsm" Moreira, who made way for Rickson "Rkzinho" Ribeiro Dias from the development roster.
These significant changes come as a direct response to paiN's underwhelming performance in recent competitions. The team finished at the bottom of both BLAST Open Porto and Stake Ranked Episode 3, while also experiencing an early elimination from the Esports World Cup.
Following the disappointing results at BLAST Open Porto, team member Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt delivered a stark evaluation of the squad's internal situation, stating that the players no longer had faith in one another as teammates.
The organization has chosen to invest in youth by elevating two promising talents from their academy system. Rkzinho, only 16 years old, earned recognition by debuting at 49th position in HLTV's September Prospects ranking. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Tatu brings extensive experience, having dedicated over two years to developing within paiN Academy.
The revamped paiN Gaming roster features biguzera, Rafael "saffee" Costa, João "snow" Vinicius, Rkzinho, and Tatu, with Henrique "rikz" Waku continuing as head coach.
