Following their opening loss to 9z at the Esports World Cup, Brazilian team paiN Gaming faced off against Wildcard in the Group D lower bracket elimination match.
The series went the distance with both teams claiming their respective map selections. paiN dominated the decider Mirage, converting a commanding 11-1 first-half advantage into a 13-7 final scoreline to secure their tournament survival.
The opening map Inferno showcased dramatic momentum swings. paiN jumped ahead 6-0 early, but Wildcard fought back impressively to build a 10-6 cushion. However, they couldn't close out the map, allowing paiN to force overtime through several tight exchanges. Wildcard's defensive prowess ultimately prevailed as they claimed the map 16-12.
Wildcard's strong Inferno showing didn't translate to the remaining maps. On Nuke, after managing just three rounds on the terrorist side, they completely lost grip of the match. Rafael "saffee" Costa delivered spectacular AWP performances, including a crucial triple kill that extended paiN's lead. His exceptional 2.10 rating powered paiN to a dominant 13-3 victory.
Mirage saw both teams excel on the CT side, but paiN established near-total control with an 11-1 scoreline before halftime. Though Wildcard attempted a comeback, Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt's clutch four-kill round in the 18th stopped their resurgence, setting up match point. paiN closed out the map 13-7 two rounds later.
The Brazilians now prepare for a crucial elimination match against The MongolZ, with a playoff berth on the line.
