NRG Advance to Knockout Stage After Defeating Acend at EWC 2026 Open Qualifier

August 8, 20262 min read

NRG extended their successful run at the Esports World Cup 2026 Open Qualifier by defeating Acend in a thrilling best-of-three series.

Jeorge "Jeorge" Endicott once again proved to be the difference-maker for his team. Following his impressive showing against Spirit HU the previous day, he delivered another commanding performance, guiding the North American squad into the playoff bracket.

The series kicked off on Cache, NRG's map selection, and their choice immediately paid dividends. The American side dominated the opening half with a blistering T-side attack, stringing together six consecutive rounds to build momentum. By halftime, NRG had established a commanding 10-2 advantage. Despite Acend's attempts to mount a comeback, NRG closed out the map with a 13-10 victory.

Acend responded on their pick of Inferno, though the start looked shaky. NRG stormed to a 6-1 lead, threatening to run away with the map. The Bulgarian squad showed resilience, clawing back to tie the score at 6-6 heading into the break. The second half saw NRG pull ahead 11-7, but Acend found another gear, winning six straight rounds to claim the map 13-7 and force a decider.

Mirage served as the battleground for the final map. Acend started strongest here, racing to a 4-0 lead and finishing their T-side with a 7-5 edge. However, NRG saved their best for last, dominating the closing rounds by winning six of the final seven to seal a 13-9 victory.

Jeorge topped the server with 52 eliminations and a stellar 1.44 rating, earning match MVP honors. NRG will return to action tomorrow in the round of 32.
