M80 have captured the championship at Roman Imperium Cup VIII held in Portugal, delivering a commanding performance in the grand final against Luminosity. The team secured back-to-back map victories with 13-10 scorelines on both Dust2 and Cache, earning themselves the top prize of $6,968 and climbing 17 positions in the world rankings.
Starting with a direct seed into the double-elimination playoffs, M80 kicked off their run in Vila Nova de Gaia with victories over 6666 and Iberian Soul. Their path wasn't entirely smooth—they suffered a reverse sweep loss to Luminosity in the upper bracket final, forcing them into the lower bracket.
The Americans responded by defeating Iberian Soul again in the consolidation final before facing Luminosity once more in the grand final. This time, M80 turned the tables completely, sweeping their opponents to claim the title.
This marks M80's third LAN trophy in 2024, following earlier triumphs at fl0m Mythical LAN and DraculaN Season 6. The squad will look to maintain their momentum at their upcoming appearance at Logitech G Play Connect, scheduled for September 17 in Warsaw, Poland.
