M80 have captured the Roman Imperium Cup VIII championship after defeating Luminosity in a grand final rematch. The victory marks M80's third LAN tournament win of 2026, bringing home a $6,968 prize while gaining 17 positions in the Valve Regional Standings.
The path to victory required M80 to battle through the lower bracket after Luminosity had reverse swept them earlier in the upper bracket final. Before the rematch, M80 dominated Iberian Soul in the lower bracket final, securing convincing victories on Inferno 13-7 and Cache 13-5 to set up the championship showdown.
The grand final opened on Dust2 with M80 jumping ahead 4-0 on their CT-side, but Luminosity responded with six consecutive rounds to take control. The half concluded tied after M80 grabbed the final two rounds. Following the side switch, Luminosity claimed four of the opening five rounds before M80 unleashed an impressive six-round streak on their T-side to close out Dust2 13-10.
Cache saw M80 establish early momentum, winning five of the first seven rounds on their T-side. However, Luminosity surged back with five straight rounds to edge the half 7-5, denying M80 even a bomb plant opportunity. M80 regained their composure on the CT-side, with Michael "Swisher" Schmid and Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich each delivering eleven kills to power their squad to a 10-8 advantage before finishing Cache 13-10.
M80 will next compete at Logitech G Play Connect 2026 in Warsaw, Poland, beginning September 17th.
