Luminosity secured second place at Logitech G Play Connect 2026 after an exhausting grand final clash with 3DMAX that stretched close to seven hours. The North American squad had previously knocked out tournament favorites B8 with a clean 2-0 victory in their semifinal, setting up a best-of-five showdown for the championship.
Despite the heartbreaking 2-3 loss, Luminosity walked away with a $20,000 prize and made significant progress in the global rankings, climbing from #32 to #21 on the VRS leaderboard. This jump substantially improves their prospects of qualifying for the PGL Singapore Major.
The series opened on Cache, 3DMAX's map selection, where Luminosity grabbed the opening pistol before the French squad responded with eight of the following nine rounds. Though Luminosity rallied late, 3DMAX held an 8-4 advantage at halftime. The North Americans won the second pistol too, but 3DMAX pushed ahead 11-5. Luminosity mounted a comeback attempt but came up just short as 3DMAX captured the opener 13-11.
On Dust2, Luminosity's pick, they started strong with a pistol win and early momentum, leading 5-1. After traded rounds, overtime became necessary. Luminosity reached map point twice but couldn't seal it, allowing 3DMAX to steal the map 19-16 and take a 2-0 series lead.
Ancient saw Luminosity fight off elimination through two overtime periods, eventually winning 19-15. They followed this with a convincing 13-8 victory on Inferno, their second pick, forcing a decisive fifth map.
The final battle on Nuke was tense. After winning their eighth pistol round of the series, Luminosity pushed hard but couldn't overcome 3DMAX's resilience. In overtime, the French team found their rhythm on the T-side and closed out the map 16-13, claiming the grand final 3-2.
Luminosity will next compete at Stake Ranked Episode 4 in Barcelona, facing B8 on October 1st at 06:00 AM.
