Team Liquid, now under the guidance of newly acquired in-game leader Johnny "JT" Theodosiou, pulled off a major upset by defeating Vitality 2-0 in their opening match at BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 2.
The North American squad opened the series on their map selection, Anubis. Vitality opted to begin as Terrorists, but Liquid managed to stay competitive and entered halftime with a tied 6-6 scoreline. Under JT's calling, Liquid's offensive side proved formidable in the second half. After dropping the pistol round and the following one, the Americans displayed impressive T-side execution, surrendering only two additional rounds to claim Anubis 13-10.
On Vitality's choice of Nuke, Liquid kicked off on the advantageous Counter-Terrorist side. The Americans started strong before Vitality fought back to level the score at 4-4. However, Liquid closed out the first half with momentum, establishing a 7-5 lead. The Europeans leveraged the defensive setup early in the second half to edge ahead 9-8. Liquid responded decisively, igniting their comeback with an eco-round victory powered by Jonathan "EliGE" Jablownowski's triple kill. The team then rattled off five consecutive rounds to secure the map 13-9 and complete the 2-0 series upset.
EliGE topped the server with 42 eliminations and an outstanding 1.52 rating across both maps. The victory puts Liquid just one best-of-three series away from qualifying for the LAN stage of the tournament.
