Team Liquid have officially revealed the acquisition of South African in-game leader Ioannis 'Johnny' JT Theodosiou, following the recent benching of previous IGL Kamil siuhy Szkaradek. Reports from Dust2.us last month had already indicated the deal was nearing completion.
JT is set to make his debut for Liquid this Friday when they face off against Vitality in their BLAST Bounty 2026 Season 2 opening match, where he was previously listed on their roster.
The roster change comes after a challenging period for the North American organization. Despite Mario malbsMd Samayoa showing promising individual performances since joining in March, the team has struggled to convert potential into results. Liquid failed to reach playoffs at any significant tournament since January, culminating in a disappointing 0-2 elimination by FlyQuest during Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major.
Criticism had been mounting regarding the leadership approach under siuhy and coach Viktor flashie Tamás Bea, particularly as talented players like malbsMd, Keith NAF Markovic, and Jonathan EliGE Jablonowski demonstrated they still possessed strong fragging capabilities. The team's weak terrorist-side performance, ranking among the poorest in the top 30, combined with a seemingly negative match atmosphere, made changes inevitable.
The signing reunites JT with his former Complexity teammate EliGE, a partnership that achieved notable success during Counter-Strike 2's early competitive period. Known for maximizing player potential beyond expectations, JT now faces perhaps his biggest challenge yet to prove his ceiling as a top-tier in-game leader.
