The North American Closed Qualifier for PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 concluded with Team Liquid claiming the final spot at the October LAN tournament. Despite dropping to NRG 0-2 in their initial encounter, Liquid battled through eight grueling maps across two separate series to punch their ticket to Romania.
After defeating Voca 2-1 in the consolidation final, Liquid faced NRG once more in a decisive rematch that stretched to all five maps. With $1.25 million on the line and the tournament serving as one of the final major LANs before the PGL Singapore Major invite cutoff in early November, the stakes couldn't have been higher.
The grand final kicked off on Cache, where Liquid jumped to a commanding 6-1 lead on their CT-side. NRG managed to claw back to 8-4, but Liquid maintained composure to close out the opener 13-6. NRG struck back on their Nuke pick, building an 8-4 halftime advantage and finishing strong at 13-7 to level the series.
Dust2 belonged to NRG, who dominated 13-7 to take a 2-1 series lead. However, Liquid responded emphatically on Mirage with a massive 10-2 first half. NRG mounted a remarkable comeback to tie 11-11, but Liquid held their nerve to edge out a 13-11 victory and force a decider.
The final map Inferno proved far less dramatic, with Liquid establishing a dominant 9-3 lead and closing out 13-5 to secure their Bucharest berth. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski delivered a masterclass performance, recording 89 kills with 89 ADR and an exceptional 14-2 opening kill-death ratio on CT-side.
Interestingly, despite winning the qualifier, Liquid dropped 15 VRS points due to their earlier loss to NRG—the second-highest loss among all participating teams. PGL Masters Bucharest is scheduled to begin October 24th in Romania.
