Liquid Bring in Jorko to Replace ultimate

July 9, 20262 min read

Team Liquid have completed the signing of Bulgarian AWPer Georgi "Jorko" Mitev, who ranks #28 on HLTV's Prospect list. The 17-year-old replaces Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak, who was moved to the inactive roster earlier this week.

Jorko arrives from FOKUS, where he spent the past five months putting up a 1.07 rating. During his time with the European squad, he claimed victory at Urban Riga Open Season 3 and narrowly missed playoff qualification at PGL Bucharest.

Prior to his FOKUS stint, the young sniper had spells with CPH Wolves and competed on MOUZ NXT alongside Oldřich "PR" Nový and Adrian "xelex" Vincze.

This marks another youth-focused gamble for Liquid, who have battled for years to recapture their former dominance. The AWP position has consistently proven problematic across multiple roster configurations.

The situation echoes ultimate's own arrival in July 2024, when Liquid signed the Pole despite his lack of top-tier experience. Though Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken had been impressed by ultimate in practice matches, the player struggled to maintain consistency throughout his tenure.

Liquid's 2026 campaign has been catastrophic, marked by repeated group stage eliminations and failures at lower-tier events. The team's VRS ranking plummeted, barely securing their IEM Cologne Major spot, where they exited in Stage 1 with a 2-3 record.

These poor showings have triggered major changes heading into season two. Reports indicate the organization is also pursuing Johnny "JT" Theodosiou as their new in-game leader, hoping to address their abysmal T-side win percentage that ranked among the scene's worst this year.
