100 Thieves kicked off their Esports World Cup campaign with an emphatic victory against Ukrainian squad SadFamous, thanks to an outstanding display from their new in-game leader Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen.
The Europeans made light work of their opponents, starting on SadFamous' map pick Nuke. 100 Thieves controlled the CT side perfectly, conceding only two rounds to establish a commanding 10-2 advantage before switching sides. The Ukrainian team couldn't mount a comeback, falling 13-3 on their own selection. Gizmy was absolutely unstoppable, finishing with an incredible 24-5 scoreline.
The second map Dust2 proved even more one-sided. 100 Thieves' dominance continued as they lost just a single round in the opening half, building an 11-1 cushion. They closed out the map 13-2, securing their spot in the winners' match. Gizmy elevated his game further, posting a remarkable 28-4 record.
The German IGL's combined statistics were jaw-dropping: 52 eliminations against only 9 deaths across both maps. In comparison, the entire SadFamous roster managed just 59 kills throughout the match.
The North American organization will now prepare for tomorrow's Group 11 winners' match, where they'll meet either NADE or Eternal Fire. Victory there would secure their place in the single-elimination knockout stage of the tournament.
