GamerLegion made a strong start to their Esports World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding victory over Luminosity in the tournament's opening round.
The Canadian organization, which recently brought in the Monte roster that turned heads at the IEM Cologne Major, faced a tough reality check in their EWC debut. The best-of-one clash unfolded on Nuke, where GamerLegion demonstrated their prowess by winning the pistol round and quickly establishing a 4-0 advantage on the Counter-Terrorist side.
Luminosity struggled to find their rhythm throughout the first half, managing to secure only three rounds while GamerLegion built a comfortable 9-3 cushion heading into the break. The team's difficulties continued after the side switch, as they failed to capitalize on the typically favorable CT-side position.
GamerLegion maintained their dominant form in the second half, rattling off four consecutive rounds to seal a decisive 13-3 victory and claim their first win at the tournament.
Timur "FL4MUS" Marev and Fredrik "REZ" Sterner led the charge for GamerLegion, finishing with 17 and 19 eliminations respectively to power their squad to victory.
Luminosity now faces an elimination match against Spirit in the Group A lower bracket, scheduled for tomorrow at 09:55 AM. The Canadian squad will need to regroup quickly if they hope to keep their tournament run alive.
