G2 Esports have confirmed the benching of Spanish rifler Álvaro "SunPayus" García, bringing his time on the active lineup to a close after twelve months with the team.
The decision follows G2's elimination from the IEM Cologne Major playoffs, where they fell to Spirit in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
SunPayus became part of G2's roster in July 2025, maintaining a solid 1.05 rating throughout his period with the squad. His most memorable achievement came when he contributed to the team's victory at BLAST Open London 2025 Finals.
While the benching creates an opening for an AWP specialist, reports from HLTV indicate that G2 have no plans to elevate Klimentii "kl1m" Krivosheev from their academy setup to fill the vacant position.
The current G2 active roster consists of Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač, Matúš "MATYS" Šimko, Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko, and Guy "NertZ" Iluz, with Eetu "sAw" Saha continuing as head coach. SunPayus remains under contract but moves to inactive status.
