G2 have punched their ticket to the Esports World Cup playoffs after defeating BIG in a 2-1 series that was far more one-sided than the scoreline suggests.
The opening map Cache saw G2 completely dismantle BIG's previously undefeated 3-0 record on the map. The German squad had no response to G2's tactical defensive setups. Artem "r1nkle" Moroz repeatedly peeked through smokes for quick eliminations before escaping unscathed, while Guy "NertZ" Iluz controlled Middle with authority on both sides.
Ancient, G2's map selection, initially favored BIG thanks to Jon "JDC" de Castro's impressive four-kill round on his signature map. With only NertZ finding frags early on, G2 fell behind 5-10. However, they mounted a fierce comeback reminiscent of their Cache performance. Despite Benjamin "blameF" Bremer's clutch ace in a 1v3 situation, BIG trailed 11-12 before forcing overtime. NertZ posted an exceptional 127 ADR through regulation, but BIG seized control in overtime to force a decisive third map.
The decider landed on Inferno, where G2 have historically dominated BIG, including at the IEM Cologne Major. Living up to expectations, G2 delivered a masterclass performance, completely overwhelming their opponents to seal the series and claim their playoff berth with ease.
