G2 have finally overcome their quarter-final struggles at FISSURE Playground 3, defeating FURIA in a convincing 2-0 victory to advance to the top-four of a Big Event for the first time since their BLAST Open London triumph over twelve months ago.
Despite facing a relatively weaker field at FPG 3, G2's victory over one of the tournament's highest-ranked teams demonstrates significant progress. FURIA will be disappointed with how they let Ancient slip away after holding a commanding 11-7 advantage and generally outperforming their opponents tactically.
G2's individual performances, particularly from Matúš "MATYS" Šimko, proved decisive in securing Ancient. The entire roster then elevated their game on Dust2, completely overwhelming a deflated FURIA side to book their semi-final clash against BETBOOM.
On Ancient, FURIA started slowly, allowing G2 to build a 5-2 T-side lead despite questionable positioning. Strong contributions from Danil "molodoy" Golubenko's AWP and Yuri "yuurih" Santos' rifle play helped FURIA establish a 7-5 halftime advantage, capitalizing on G2's weak default setup.
The second half saw FURIA extend their lead to 11-7 after winning crucial force-buy rounds, with molodoy's Galil and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis's armor-less Tec-9 making the difference. However, MATYS sparked G2's comeback with proactive defensive play, pushing the match into overtime where G2 ultimately triumphed.
Dust2 was a completely different story. G2 dominated from start to finish as FURIA's individuals struggled to find any rhythm, allowing G2 to close out the series swiftly and secure their semi-final berth.
