Shahar "flameZ" Shushan opened up about Vitality's turbulent season following their opening win against magic at StarLadder StarSeries Fall. The Israeli rifler provided insight into how the French organization is handling multiple roster adjustments while maintaining their sights on Major qualification.
The 23-year-old explained the difficulties of competing without their complete lineup. With mezii taking time off for family and apEX expecting a baby around PGL, the team has been forced to integrate jL for several events. This situation has created unique challenges for practice and tournament preparation.
"You've got to get used to a new voice calling and get used to a new player in the server in a different position," flameZ stated. The constant rotation complicates their ability to maintain consistent practice routines and strategic development.
Despite these obstacles, flameZ emphasized that the squad is focused on playing quality Counter-Strike rather than just chasing trophy wins. He noted that some losses this season felt particularly frustrating because the team didn't showcase their true capabilities. The goal is to rediscover their championship form, which naturally leads to tournament victories.
Regarding jL's contribution, flameZ highlighted how the stand-in forces the team to concentrate on fundamental gameplay rather than complex strategies. He praised jL's positive energy and movement-based playstyle, though acknowledged that having mezii call instead of apEX will create a different dynamic.
When asked about returning to their dominant era, flameZ expressed confidence in the roster's potential. He referenced their 2025 comeback after a rough start, which culminated in a Major victory and five additional trophies. "We do believe in this roster. I don't think there is anyone that believes that there is a better roster to be in other than this group of five people," he declared.
The rifler views the current struggles as necessary growth periods. If Vitality qualifies for Stage 3 and reaches the Major, he believes they'll arrive thoroughly prepared to compete at the highest level. Even without winning trophies this season, a Major championship would validate their efforts and restore team morale.
Vitality's immediate focus remains on accumulating VRS points and maximizing their remaining tournaments with the full roster. flameZ stressed that maintaining competitive hunger isn't difficult when results become harder to achieve, making every victory more meaningful than during their period of dominance.
