FaZe withstand BetBoom's fierce rally in EWC 2026 Group B opener

FaZe secured a hard-fought victory against BetBoom in their first Group B encounter at the Esports World Cup 2026, but the win came with plenty of drama.

What appeared to be a straightforward victory for FaZe on Nuke turned into a nail-biting contest as BetBoom mounted an impressive comeback attempt. Despite the scare, FaZe ultimately prevailed and avoided an embarrassing early exit.

The European squad started strong on the CT side, racing to a dominant 9-0 advantage that suggested a one-sided affair. However, BetBoom showed resilience by claiming the final three rounds of the first half, closing the gap to 9-3 and setting the stage for their resurgence.

The second half saw BetBoom flip the script entirely. They stormed through six consecutive rounds on their CT side, extending their overall run to nine straight and leveling the match at 9-9. FaZe broke the momentum to edge ahead 10-9, but the teams then exchanged rounds in a tense back-and-forth battle. FaZe eventually found their rhythm, stringing together two crucial round victories to close out the map 13-11.

Young talent Jason "JBOEN" Boe Nielsen delivered an impressive performance, finishing at the top of the leaderboard with 19 eliminations to lead his team's offensive efforts.

FaZe now advances to face Legacy in the upper bracket semifinal of Group B, where they'll compete for a coveted playoff berth at EWC 2026.
