Falcons have punched their ticket to the BLAST Open Porto semi-finals with a dominant 2-0 sweep over G2, marking their fourth consecutive triumph against the European side since m0NESY joined their ranks.
The victory sets up an exciting clash with Spirit on Saturday, a rematch of their IEM Cologne Major semi-final encounter where Falcons emerged victorious through two overtime battles.
For G2, the disappointment continues as their drought of top-four finishes at major events extends to nearly a year, dating back to their BLAST Open London triumph last September.
Falcons came out firing on all cylinders from the opening rounds, a stark contrast to their shaky group stage showing where they barely squeaked past Lynn Vision and suffered a heavy defeat to MOUZ. Their individuals looked revitalized and hungry.
The opening map Inferno saw Falcons dismantle G2 with a crushing 11-1 CT-side performance. René "TeSeS" Madsen set the tone early by shutting down a dangerous force-buy in round two. Then Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, Maksim "kyousuke" Lukin, and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač took turns delivering clutch multi-kill performances that denied G2 any momentum.
NiKo's spectacular solo quad-kill sent the crowd wild and put G2 on the ropes for good. Despite Matúš "MATYS" Šimko's strong second-half effort, G2 couldn't mount a comeback.
Dust2 followed a similar script. While NiKo had cooled down, kyousuke stepped up brilliantly, consistently creating crucial openings. His devastating AK work in round six broke G2's spirit during another massive Falcons first half.
Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač tried desperately to keep G2alive with a pistol double-kill, a follow-up ace, and a clutch 1v2, mirroring MATYS's efforts on Inferno. But it proved futile as m0NESY guided Falcons to match point effortlessly, closing out the series shortly after.
