The opening day of ESL Challenger Cup 1 for Season 52 delivered exciting action across eight competitive matchups, with favorites largely advancing but not without some surprises.
Voca, entering as the tournament's highest-ranked squad, faced New Legends in their debut match. The top VRS-ranked team wasted no time asserting dominance on Dust2, New Legends' map selection. After building an imposing 11-1 advantage by halftime, Voca extended their lead to 12-1 before their opponents managed a brief three-round response. The resistance proved short-lived as Voca closed out the map 13-4.
Ancient, Voca's choice for map two, initially favored New Legends who surged to a 7-1 advantage. Brandon Electrician Lopac spearheaded the CT effort with a stellar 15-6 showing, helping secure an 8-4 halftime cushion. However, the second half belonged entirely to Voca, who surrendered merely a single round while storming to a 13-9 victory and 2-0 series sweep. Derek dare Brown and Wyatt snav Phillippi powered the offensive with 34 and 38 eliminations respectively.
The day's biggest upset saw EMPIRE overturn Zomblers in a tense three-map battle. After claiming Dust2 13-10 following a tight contest, EMPIRE dropped Inferno 13-6 as Zomblers dominated with an 8-4 attacking half. The decisive Nuke map showcased EMPIRE's resilience, building a 5-1 T-side lead before Zomblers narrowed the gap to 7-5 at intermission. Though Zomblers pulled within 7-6, EMPIRE's CT defense proved impenetrable, securing a 13-7 map victory and 2-1 series triumph. Nicolas C0C0 Nassoura was phenomenal with 53 frags.
Other notable results included FarmVille edging Club 333 2-1, Overtake Sector defeating Villainous 2-1, and NuTorious, Marsborne, and Iowa Stormboar all recording 2-0 victories.
Day two features upper bracket clashes including Voca versus FarmVille and EMPIRE taking on Chicken Coop, while elimination matches pit New Legends against Club 333 and Zomblers facing Incognito.
