The ESL Challenger League Season 52 Cup 1 has reached its crucial stage, with only two squads left standing in the upper bracket. The top-ranked teams Marsborne and Voca are set to face off in the upper bracket finale following victories in their previous encounters.
The lower bracket still features four contenders, including Overtake Sector and Chicken Coop as the highest-seeded teams. EMPIRE has started their lower bracket journey strongly, securing victories against New Legends and pulling off an impressive upset against Iowa Stormboar. Zomblers complete the lineup of remaining teams in the elimination bracket.
Marsborne dominated Chicken Coop in their upper semifinal clash. Both teams had entered the match undefeated in the tournament. Marsborne's momentum proved unstoppable as they crushed their opponents on Ancient with a commanding 13-3 scoreline.
The second map on Dust2 provided more drama. Chicken Coop jumped to a quick 6-0 advantage before Marsborne responded with six consecutive rounds to level at 6-6. Marsborne then took control of their terrorist side, stringing together rounds in clusters of three and four to secure a 13-9 victory and complete the 2-0 sweep. Adam "freshie" Paterson, Adam "Grizz" Golden, and Nick "nicx" Lee each contributed over 30 eliminations in the victory.
EMPIRE battled past Iowa Stormboar in a three-map series. Iowa dominated Cache 13-4 despite EMPIRE choosing the map. EMPIRE bounced back on Nuke, leveraging their CT-side start to build an 8-4 halftime lead and closing out 13-8.
The decisive Inferno map saw EMPIRE establish another 8-4 lead at the break, this time from the T-side. Iowa Stormboar mounted a comeback attempt, narrowing the deficit to 10-9, but EMPIRE held firm to win 13-10 and take the series 2-1. Former Evil Geniuses player Colby "Walco" Walsh topped the leaderboard with 50 eliminations.
Other results included Voca defeating Overtake Sector 2-1, and Zomblers advancing via forfeit against Elusive. Tonight's fixtures feature EMPIRE facing Overtake Sector and Zomblers taking on Chicken Coop.
