Following BetBoom's quarter-final elimination at XSE Pro League after a decisive defeat to FaZe, team captain Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov sat down with HLTV to discuss the outcome and the squad's future direction.
The match proved challenging for BetBoom despite their flawless 3-0 group stage performance. Boombl4 pointed to several factors that influenced their playoff struggle, including the addition of Cache to the competitive map rotation. Adjusting to the expanded map pool proved difficult, especially with limited preparation time alongside S1ren after an exhausting Major run with a substitute player.
The five-day gap before playoffs also disrupted the team's rhythm. Boombl4 acknowledged the Asian region's practice environment presents unique difficulties, making it challenging to secure quality scrimmages on necessary maps. While FaZe faced the same break, they had additional official match experience from their 3-2 group stage finish.
Despite the loss, Boombl4 characterized reaching the playoffs as satisfactory progress. The squad's immediate objective centers on maintaining their current standing and consistently qualifying for playoff stages to accumulate valuable experience before pursuing deeper tournament runs.
Roster instability dominated much of the season, with various stand-ins rotating through the lineup. FL4MUS departed after the Major despite no planned changes, and the team juggled d1Ledez and S1ren absences throughout different periods. Boombl4 emphasized this constant shuffling made evaluating the roster's true potential nearly impossible.
Looking ahead, the captain outlined clear goals: secure a stable top-16 ranking to qualify for premier events with their full roster, reach playoffs consistently, and gradually build toward competitive semifinal appearances. He views even first-round playoff exits as valuable learning opportunities, suggesting that by late next season, the team should be ready to compete seriously for top placements.
