Popular streamer Austin Meadows recently opened up about his experience touring Valve's headquarters, where he spent three hours in conversation with the team behind Counter-Strike 2.

During his Twitch broadcast on Wednesday, Austin discussed various aspects of CS2 development. When talking about weapon balancing, he explained that Valve approaches changes carefully. The development team emphasized the difficulty of adjusting any firearm, as predicting how one modification might cascade through the entire meta proves challenging.

Contrary to community assumptions, Austin observed that the CS2 development team is larger than many might think. Without conducting an exact count, he estimated over thirty developers actively contribute to the game. Additionally, he noted that these developers genuinely love Counter-Strike and play it more frequently than average players.

Regarding anti-cheat concerns, Austin conveyed that Valve acknowledges community feedback about current issues. The company believes they're making progress toward effectively combating cheaters.

The developers expressed interest in encouraging players to explore maps beyond the heavily favored Dust2 and Mirage. They're brainstorming methods to achieve this diversity, and hinted that one competitive map might be rotated out next season.

Sub-tick server mechanics were another discussion point. The team explained they worked diligently to transition this system from CS:GO to CS2, noting that some visual discrepancies simply reflect inherent differences between the two games.

When Austin inquired about operations, developers indicated they aren't currently planned but remain a possibility. Regarding surfing as an official mode, developers felt it would confuse newcomers and acknowledged the community already does an excellent job hosting surf servers.

Austin concluded by emphasizing that the developers are genuinely dedicated and working hard, not idle. They want CS2 to thrive but face overwhelming challenges, particularly with anti-cheat solutions.
