The Danish-majority lineup has punched their ticket to the semi-finals at BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals, overcoming paiN Gaming in a tense 2-1 series that served as payback for their earlier defeat at the Cologne Major Stage 2.
Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen's squad found themselves in hot water early after dropping Nuke, but they rallied impressively to claim overtime victories on both Inferno and Mirage. This marks their first appearance in a LAN semi-final since competing at PGL Bucharest.
The win didn't come easy, though. Astralis squandered a staggering ten map points across the final two maps, repeatedly allowing the Brazilian squad to claw their way back before ultimately sealing both in extra rounds. The Danish side will need to tighten up considerably as they prepare for much tougher opposition in the next round.
"The energy was crazy in this game," Victor "Staehr" Staehr shared in his post-match interview with James "BanKs" Banks. "I love it. They played really well and had some good rounds, and that's why we went to overtime. You started sweating a bit, but then you have some breathing room. We have full money, you don't have to stress out the money, which was very nice."
The opening map saw paiN struggle initially on Nuke, with Astralis building a solid CT-side foundation. Though Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt's team improved late in the first half to reach six rounds, they surged after the break. Led by stellar performances from Vinicius "vsm" Moreira and João "snow" Vinicius, the Brazilians mounted an impressive 6-0 run to steal the map.
Astralis looked far more composed on their Inferno selection, establishing an 8-2 T-side advantage. However, paiN demonstrated remarkable resilience, fighting back from five match points spread across regulation and overtime before finally falling in double overtime.
The pattern repeated on the decider Mirage, where Astralis jumped ahead 6-0 only to see paiN mount another spirited comeback. Despite trailing 7-12, the Brazilian side refused to surrender, though their determination ultimately fell short as Astralis closed it out in overtime.
