G2 Esports has officially confirmed the exit of AWPer Álvaro García, bringing an end to his 14-month journey with the organization. The Spanish player had been sidelined for the past three months following his replacement by Artem Moroz in June.
While G2 has not disclosed García's next destination, widespread reports indicate he is expected to join FUT, where he would replace struggling AWPer Nikita Samolotov.
García originally joined G2 in July 2025 as the permanent replacement for Ilya Osipov, who had transferred to Falcons. The partnership started promisingly, with the European squad claiming victory at BLAST Open London 2025 just one month after his arrival.
However, sustained success proved elusive for the team, as they frequently fell short of playoff berths or were eliminated in early playoff rounds. Despite posting solid statistics compared to most AWPers outside the top-tier names like Osipov and Mathieu Herbaut, García became a focal point of community criticism.
Ultimately, G2 decided to bench the 27-year-old in favor of a more aggressive approach with Moroz. Coach Eetu Saha explained the decision shortly after the benching, stating that García could still contribute positively to the right team, but G2 needed a more aggressive element since several other players had more passive tendencies.
The move marks the end of García's chapter with one of Counter-Strike's most prominent organizations.
