The Valve Regional Standings system has undergone a significant rule change that could impact multiple professional Counter-Strike 2 rosters pursuing Major tournament invitations.
On Tuesday, October 6, Valve introduced a new three-month restriction that prevents teams from switching regional assignments for Major qualification purposes. The developer confirmed to HLTV that this limitation will be enforced for the upcoming Singapore Major.
According to the updated rulebook, any roster seeking regional assignment cannot have been listed under a different region's VRS ranking within the previous three calendar months. While this restriction applies specifically to Major invitations, it does not block teams from receiving VRS-based invites to other competitive events.
The rule change emerged following strategic roster moves by organizations including Sashi, BC.Game, and WW. These teams had restructured their lineups to achieve Asian regional majorities while maintaining at least three core players who had accumulated VRS points. This approach allowed them to preserve their existing points while repositioning themselves in Asian rankings, where the same point totals placed them closer to Major-qualifying positions than in the European standings.
Following the announcement's circulation across social media platforms, BC.Game responded with a cryptic tweet containing only the word "What?"
Valve informed HLTV that teams attempting regional transfers before the Singapore Major now face exclusion from Major qualification unless they directly contact the developer to negotiate alternative solutions. The three-month calculation period aligns with Valve's official monthly VRS updates, which are published every first Monday of each month.
Despite these restrictions on Major qualification, affected teams maintain eligibility for VRS invitations to non-Major tournaments.
