Valve has made significant changes to the CS Major Supplemental Rulebook following multiple teams attempting to transfer from European to Asian VRS regions to improve their Major qualification prospects.
The updated rulebook now states that rosters can only receive a Regional Assignment if they haven't been listed in another region's VRS during the previous three calendar months. This effectively creates a mandatory waiting period for any regional transfer.
In practical terms, teams planning a region change must now wait three full months before the switch becomes official for Major purposes. This eliminates the possibility of last-minute regional transfers designed to exploit easier qualification paths.
It's important to note that this restriction applies exclusively to Major invitations. Teams remain eligible for tournaments outside the Major circuit regardless of recent regional changes.
When contacted by HLTV, Valve confirmed the policy takes effect for the upcoming Singapore Major. The company also clarified that the three-month period counts backward from when Major invitations are distributed, not from the tournament's start date.
Valve additionally revealed that organizations which completed region swaps before the Singapore Major are now disqualified from the Major cycle unless they contact Valve to negotiate an alternative arrangement.
This development follows recent announcements from several teams switching to the Asian VRS with only one month remaining. BC.Game's acquisition of Tyson "asap" Paterson represented the most prominent transfer, while WW and Sashi also attempted late-stage regional changes. Under the new regulations, these moves no longer provide any advantage for Major qualification.
