Snappi on Retirement: Individual Performance Made Way for Fresh Talent

Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer recently opened up about his decision to retire from professional play and transition into coaching with HEROIC during an appearance on HLTV Confirmed.

The veteran player, whose career stretched across CS 1.6, CS:GO, and CS2 over almost two decades, reflected candidly on the factors that led to his retirement. According to Snappi, his performance in CS2 started strong but deteriorated significantly after the initial events. He acknowledged that his skill level had declined to where bringing in new players made more sense for the team.

The frustration of not matching his previous individual output weighed heavily on him, potentially affecting his in-game leadership abilities. He explained that being unable to contribute actively as a player limited strategic options during matches.

Pressure intensified dramatically during his final six months as a player. Knowing each match could be his last created unprecedented stress throughout his career. Social media backlash reached extreme levels, with hate comments flooding his feeds in ways he had never experienced before. He referenced the saying about living as a hero or dying as a villain, noting his career ended in the latter category within online communities.

Regarding the decision-making process, Snappi revealed he initiated conversations with Xizt about needing more firepower in his position. The final call came mutually between him and the organization, though he believes it originated from management rather than teammates. He supported the decision as correct for the team's future.

Now stepping into his first head coaching role with HEROIC, the 36-year-old expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity. Though originally planning to wait until after the Major transfer window, he couldn't pass up working with this young roster. He appreciates the team's growth potential and the organization's people.

Snappi acknowledged he has much to learn in his new position, including reading relevant literature and taking courses on psychological aspects of coaching. He plans to approach the role with humility while leveraging his extensive experience across all Counter-Strike iterations and various team dynamics throughout his lengthy career.
