M80's journey at ESL Pro League Season 24 came to an end following a decisive 2-0 defeat against the world's number one team, Spirit. The match determined which squad would advance to the playoffs at the Spodek arena.
The North American roster started the tournament poorly, dropping their opening two matches against BetBoom and MOUZ. Facing elimination, the team mounted a comeback with victories over TYLOO and Legacy, bringing their record to 2-2. One more best-of-three win would have secured their playoff berth.
However, Elias "s1n" Stein's squad couldn't overcome the Russian powerhouse. Spirit dominated their map selection of Dust2, taking control after winning a crucial force-buy round despite losing the initial pistol. The Russian side built a commanding 9-3 halftime advantage. M80 managed to win the second-half pistol and conversion, but Spirit regained momentum by claiming the first gun round. The map concluded 13-6 in Spirit's favor.
On M80's pick of Cache, the North Americans showed more fight. They jumped ahead 4-0 early and held an 8-4 lead after their CT half. Yet costly individual plays proved pivotal—IGL Boris "magixx" Vorobiev pulled off a 1v4 ace clutch in round five, while AWPer Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov won a 1v3 in round seven. Those momentum-shifting moments haunted M80 in the second half as Spirit stormed back to take the map 13-10 and seal the series.
M80 will likely appear next at the PGL Singapore Major, where they're virtually guaranteed a Stage One position.
