ESL Challenger League Season 52's third cup tournament launched with seven opening matches, as only 15 teams accepted invitations to compete. Chicken Coop, holding the top ranking as of September 7th seeding, received a bye directly into round two of the upper bracket.
The initial round saw favorites prevail across the board without major upsets. DETONATE secured their advancement past EMPIRE with a clean sweep, setting up a showdown against first-seeded Chicken Coop. The evening's tightest contest came between Iowa Stormboar and Wanted Goons, requiring all three maps before Stormboar squeezed out a narrow 13-11 victory on the decider.
DETONATE's path to a 2-0 victory over EMPIRE began on Nuke, where EMPIRE started strong on the challenging terrorist side, building a 5-1 advantage and holding 7-5 at halftime. However, DETONATE delivered a brilliant terrorist half, surrendering just one round to claim the map 13-8. Cache followed a similar pattern, tied 6-6 at the break before DETONATE pulled away for a 13-9 finish. European stars Milan "CrePoW" Libbrecht and Nils "ReFuZR" Groot dominated with a combined 78 eliminations.
The Iowa Stormboar versus Wanted Goons battle went the distance. After Wanted Goons took an early 3-0 lead on Ancient, Iowa Stormboar rattled off nine consecutive rounds for a 9-3 halftime cushion, eventually closing 13-8. Wanted Goons flipped the script on Mirage, racing to a 9-3 lead and finishing 13-7. Dust2 became a nail-biter, with Wanted Goons reaching 11-6 before Iowa Stormboar mounted a remarkable comeback. Brett "Scorchyy" Coolen's 15 second-half frags powered the rally to a regulation victory. Ukrainian standout Nazar "H0NeST" Stefinko led all players with 59 kills.
Additional Day 1 results included FarmVille defeating Villainous 2-1, Overtake Sector blanking Reign Above 2-0, regain sweeping New Legends 2-0, Zomblers taking down Club 333 2-0, and Desi Boyz edging OverKnight 2-1.
