Valve has rolled out Premier Season 5, bringing significant changes to Counter-Strike 2's competitive landscape. The most notable update completely transforms how the C4 explosion functions in the game.
The traditional instant explosion has been replaced with a dynamic shockwave system. The blast now originates from the plant location and radiates outward, with damage calculations based on precomputed simulation values integrated directly into each map's compiled data. This shockwave interacts with environmental geometry, meaning walls and corners now influence the blast's reach and intensity. Players receive a visual health bar preview showing potential damage before the explosion occurs.
The map rotation sees Cache returning to the Active Duty pool while Overpass exits the competitive lineup. Valve has also addressed a long-standing performance issue where opening the scoreboard would drastically reduce frame rates by nearly half. This optimization should provide smoother gameplay for all players.
New cosmetic content arrives through two weapon collections inspired by the Call to Arms community announcement: Spy Tech and Arabesque. Additionally, two sticker collections debut featuring Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing themes. The Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections have been rotated out, along with the Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections.
The update brings several community maps into rotation. Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter join Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes, while Debris and El Dorado become available for Wingman. Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum have been removed from all game modes.
The engine receives an upgrade to the latest Source 2 version, alongside various technical improvements for workshop creators and map scripters. Minor adjustments have been made to Cache, Dust II, and Inferno, focusing primarily on clipping fixes and geometry refinements.
