Valve has rolled out a significant Counter-Strike 2 update that brings Premier Season Five online alongside major gameplay changes and map pool adjustments. The most notable change sees Cache making its return to the Active Duty map pool, while Overpass exits the competitive rotation.
The update introduces a groundbreaking redesign of C4 explosion mechanics across all official defusal maps. Damage calculations now utilize precomputed simulation values embedded directly into compiled maps. The explosion shockwave propagates rapidly outward from the detonation center rather than applying instantly, creating more realistic damage distribution. The development team also resolved an issue preventing players from picking up dropped weapons through the Buy Menu.
The Armory welcomes fresh content from the recent Call to Arms community initiative. Two weapon collections debut: Spy Tech and Arabesque. Additionally, two sticker packs arrive featuring Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing themes. Meanwhile, the Train 2025 and Sport & Field weapon collections have been removed from availability, along with Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker packages.
Workshop creators gain enhanced tools through updates to Custom Paint Job Extended, including dedicated overlay mask texture options and independent UV randomization controls. Performance improvements reduce the resource cost of displaying scoreboards, while a fix addresses disappearing material blending effects at close range.
The community map rotation sees substantial changes. Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum exit all game modes. Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter join Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch queues, while Wingman mode welcomes Debris and El Dorado. Cache, Dust II, and Inferno receive various clipping adjustments and fixes.
The engine foundation advances to the latest Source 2 version, alongside expanded map scripting capabilities and increased sticker rotation precision allowing half-degree increments during application.
