Following Voca's victory over BESTIA at iBUYPOWER Masters FML 2026, team AWPer Paytyn "junior" Johnson sat down with Dust2.us to discuss several pressing topics in competitive Counter-Strike.
The conversation touched on Voca's struggle to attend LAN tournaments, which has hurt their chances of qualifying for the Major. Johnson explained that sometimes skipping certain events makes more sense than forcing attendance when the timing doesn't align with team goals.
Looking ahead, Voca has registered for ROG Journey in Sweden before traveling to Last Chance in Argentina. Johnson expressed preference for competing in Europe, noting that European teams play more structured Counter-Strike compared to the chaotic approach some North American squads employ.
Regarding recent roster moves, Johnson praised new additions Dare and MarKE. He described MarKE as one of the most reliable anchor players in the region, while highlighting Dare's raw talent and space-creating abilities.
When discussion turned to the AWP meta and recent weapon changes allowing silent unscoping, Johnson downplayed its impact. He pointed out that sound design issues in CS2 already make scope audio largely irrelevant.
The most striking comments came regarding AWP talent development in North America. Johnson identified a critical problem: the region lacks high-caliber in-game leaders who can nurture developing snipers. He credits his own growth to working with leaders like Shakezullah, opportunities that current prospects simply don't have.
Comparing himself to oSee, Johnson acknowledged his rival's superior track record while maintaining personal confidence. He also showed respect for returning veteran CeRq, recalling him as the toughest AWP opponent during his early career.
Despite the strong showing against BESTIA, Voca's tournament run ended with a 0-2 defeat to M80 in their subsequent elimination match.
